Hello fellow travelers!
Welcome to the next October issue of "On the Road." This month, we have lots of great stories and tips to share from our wonderful community of travel nurses.
Nurse Phoenix's Idaho Adventure
After an amazing time in the Pacific Northwest, our globetrotting Nurse Phoenix is blazing new trails out west in dazzling Idaho for their latest assignment! Phoenix will be lending their top-notch nursing skills to patients at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in the lively city of Boise.
Phoenix is reveling in Idaho's natural splendor, from stunning mountain vistas to rushing rivers. When not working, you'll find Phoenix kayaking the Payette, hitting the slopes at Bogus Basin, and exploring downtown Boise's restaurants and cultural attractions. They've befriended fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
From the ocean breezes of Charleston to the mountain air of Boise, Phoenix continues broadening their experiences and touch lives wherever they go. We eagerly follow along on their journey spreading care across this ruggedly beautiful state. Stay tuned for more of Phoenix's remarkable adventures!

Meet Nurse Reva
Reva Lewis embarked on her nursing journey at the sole academic medical institution in the state of Mississippi, initially working as an adult medical-surgical nurse. However, medical-surgical nursing did not ignite her passion, prompting a swift transition to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), a specialty that captured her heart and one she continues to practice to this day.
Nurse Reva boasts a remarkable nursing career spanning over 11 years, with the majority of that time dedicated to a unique calling as a NICU travel nurse. Her extensive journey has encompassed more than 15 travel assignments, varying in duration from four weeks to an entire year. These experiences have taken her through the highs and lows inherent in an itinerant profession, from moments of financial hardship and hunger to the exhilaration of earning a six-figure income in a single year.
Nurse Reva's firsthand encounters have endowed her with a wealth of knowledge, enabling her to guide fellow nurses who seek superior compensation, safer patient ratios, and relief from the constraints of hospital politics.

Self-Care for Nurses on the Move
Managing sleep is a critical aspect of self-care for travel nurses. To ensure quality rest, it's essential to establish a consistent sleep schedule that aligns with your work shifts. Create a sleep-conducive environment by using blackout curtains and earplugs, and invest in a comfortable travel pillow and mattress to make each temporary home feel more familiar. Prioritize winding down before bedtime by practicing relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation. Avoid excessive caffeine or alcohol intake, especially close to bedtime, and maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise routine to support overall sleep quality. By making sleep a priority and implementing these strategies, travel nurses can promote their well-being, enhance job performance, and minimize the potential negative effects of shift work on their health.
